New Year---New Resolutions

How do the Promises I made line up with the Cross?

Many people made promises that they were never going to do "such-n-such" this year, or they were going to start doing "this-or-that" this year. Some folks plan to lose X number of pounds, possibly even plan on gaining some weight. Lots of promises to be sure, many to be broken. God has instructed us to stay away from vain oaths that we will surely break. In fact He said it was better to NOT have made the vow in the first place. That is not to say, we are forbidden to plan to strive to do better. Rather that is the expectation on Christians who are being sanctified. Our life should be a picture of betterment this year than last. But what about those commitments in light of the expectations of a Christian walking in the shadow of the Cross of Christ? Are they commitments that God Himself is desirous for us to make? Or are we once again starting the year in our own self-will, desiring something that God has not desired for our lives?
This year, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and you will soon discover that this may be the best resolution one could ever make!
