How the lie of Self decides so much for us.
There has been much controversy over the years concerning the level of involvement the church can have with government. We have been told, for the most part, "hand's off" concerning politics. However, those same politicians insist that we vote in each election. In order to form our views, they instruct us to become "involved" in the process of our government, but do not form views from outside sources such as "the church." Churches, oddly enough, usually consist of voters. Therefore, because politicians are not completely ignorant, they "court" churches and congregations to a certain level in order to harvest as many votes as they can. It all seems a bit confusing and humorous at the same time. Whether you are an independent, republican or democrat, or claim to be nothing at all,if you intend to make your voice heard this fall, speak from the dictates of scripture. Don't be lulled into the false view that your pocket book is the deciding factor. In fact, since most Americans are in debt worse than any previous generation, it is obvious the pocket book has not been deciding their living standards anyway, but a false sense of security has been doing that for them. Moral obligations that are upon each believer needs to guide us. And "yes", in answer to the question posed to me a few days ago, you can most certainly be Pro-life and Pro-death penalty all at the same time.
When a baby is torn from his mother's womb and sliced to pieces on a surgical table and discarded, that is murder. But when a murderer is put to death for his heinous crimes against humanity, that is justice. Don't ever confuse the two...
When the vote comes down to "me" and what I think, over and above what does the Bible expect us to do, then we have raised a new god over us. If you plan to vote, vote based on biblical principle, not your pocket book.
