I enjoyed the light bantering going on around me yesterday. Folks were talking about how this was so bad and that was so bad, and how good the "Good ole days" really were. I was reminded from scripture that we are not to long for those days. This is the day in which we live and we should be rejoicing and enjoying the many benefits of this very moment. However, I do agree that we could learn something from a bunch of dead guys. All these old writers that have become dusty memories on Mark Langley's book shelf, really are the safest guys to listen to. (Apart from scripture of course!)They speak to us from an opinion that won't change. That is right. What they have said, is, well pardon the expression, "What it is, is what it is." They can't come back and change it. Sure, some of it is not accurate. They have misstated more than one thing in their day I am sure. Be careful about lifting this fellow or another up too high, at least while they are still breathing. Men have the uncanny ability of not only changing their minds, but completely changing their direction. Yes, I am one of them. Let us hope, and pray that the change is always in a more godly direction. Study your history. Give yourself over to reading. You will learn a lot. Pick a dead guy and find out some things from him. Don't ever raise him above the scripture, and by all means, let scripture determine the final verdict over any subject.
